Ayurvedic Advice to Help Develop Self-Worth
According to Ayurveda (Holistc Indian Spiritual Science), the root cause of all illness is a lack of faith or connection with the Divine. Hence, loss of love of one's inner, highest self is the first stage in the development and cause of disease. Therefore, if one devotes themselves to loving and thinking of themselves in the highest, most Divine sense, the root of illness is more easily erradicated.
For instance, a doubting mind or low self-esteem will become peaceful through meditation. Daily meditation forces the mind to work tirelessly until all thoughts leave of their own accord. Have faith in one's meditation. The goal is to make the mind silent, release negative attitudes, wishes, and thoughts, whether self-created or accepted from others. As one releases negative ideas, they will find that the outer world reflects how they feel within (see Osho's Major Arcana II Regarding Your Inner Voice).
Vedic advice from the book Yogi Vani; Instructions for the attainment of Siddhayoga provides methods to overcome doubts. They say that only through a three-fold process can a person learn what is true - First, by reading scriptures and various beliefs, second, by what one is taught through teachers or gurus, and third, by what one experiences for themselves. Only when all three situations come together will a person gain true knowledge. Therefore, it is important to experience things for yourself. Do not just follow blindly.
Then, begin to comtemplate, "Who am I?" Except your mistakes as challenges which lead to further growth. Try to feel and see your growing inner Divinity extending to others and the outer world. As the interconnectedness of one's inner Divinity grows, the view of separateness between the inner and outer world diminishes. One begins to see that everyone and everything is part of the same Divine essence. Rightfully, to help one's self, one must help others. From all of these your sense of self-worth becomes strengthened.
Ayurvedic Therapies for Harmony and Health
1. Surround yourself with beauty and harmony, especially at home, (see Feng Shui).
2. Seek rest and happiness.
3. Use full-spectrum light bulbs in the winter if suffering from depression.
4. Some people believe in Krishna, some in Jesus Christ, some in Buddha while others commune with their creator through music. Prepare an altar or room(s) in your home with books, candles, spiritual objects, statues, gems, crystals, incense, music, flowers, bells, chimes, photos of saints, sages, spirits, etc. Use this space for mediatation, praying, or spiritual peace. It will become magnetized by your constant devotion to the Divinity.
5. Daily walks renew, revive, and refresh you. Try to take hikes and nature walks or go camping occasionally.
6. Visit oceans, streams, waterfalls, and other natural bodies of water.
7. Visit public gardens or till and plant your own garden.
8. Get adequate sun and fresh air daily.
9. Follow one's lifepath, purpose, or Dharma. Working in a career that you love is very gratifying.
10. Avoid harming others and help them as much as possible.
